I hate the usual topics, but faced with this, I surrender!
I can’t avoid it; I feel a total devotion against the city that never sleeps, the city that makes you dream and where you can’t stop going back again and again. Right, it is New York!
I remember my first time there. Despite I thought it wasn’t one of the nicest cities I had been, a short walk was enough to know that it was a special place. What New York makes you feel, exceeds these great buildings that seem to be endless.
I was captured by the feeling of a large city where all the unthinkable exists.
My first apartment was very small, and my second, not so small. When I wanted more space, I climbed the ladder I had often seen in movies, and climbed to the roof, where I get used to sunbathing and where I had a views that ever decadent, I whistle. I didn’t mind going to the laundry, which in my country I wouldn’t agree, as well as climb three floors without lift.
I loved the pharmacies and get lost in the supermarket, surrounded by so many disparate flavors and products new to me. I succumbed to the temptation of ice-cream and fruit stands, and I became fan of the coffees to take away. I remember all the places with great affection, especially Union Square, I guess because of the large number of dogs that always you could find there. Times, however, gave me a little cramped. I loved to walk around the 5th and zigzagging, I streamed through Park and Lexington. I went into their stores, but I succumbed to Soho and Chelsea ones.
I didn’t get to see the Twin Towers, just the hollow done by some heartless. I arrived to the city just after the mishap and ground zero was a sad place between photographs and hundred names of missed people, that was trying to get dolled up.
I quickly became a regular at Central Park and every evening I get used to run around the lake Jacqueline Kennedy. From the top it was easy to see the beautiful skyline formed by the buildings of the financial district and, if I was lucky to see the sunset from there, the experience was wonderful.
Since that first time, I forget how many times I’ve been back to New York, but I have always the feeling that never is the last.
