A pesar de estar en extinción por la rapidez y los horarios de nuestra sociedad actual, la parte old-fashion  y añorada de la sociedad inglesa sigue manteniendo la tradicional hora del té, aunque tiene tendencia a ser en ocasiones especiales. Esta suele darse entre las tres y las cinco de la tarde y equivale a nuestra hora de la merienda.

Si echamos un vistazo al pasado, tomar té era un acto exclusivo de las clases altas, pero es bien sabido que actualmente es la bebida nacional de los ingleses. Y es que la hora del té, se trata para ellos, del momento del día para hablar de los problemas de la vida diaria y endulzarlos con unos buenos bizcochos, scones con mantequilla o sandwiches de varios tipos. Así pues, si os trasladáis a Gran Bretaña será  facil ver a señoronas bien vestidas y tiesas tomándose sus tés y siguiendo un protocolo digno de la corte, al igual que a los pertenecientes a las clases trabajadoras que no rechazan una taza de té cuando las cosas se tuercen.

La importación del té a Inglaterra empezó en 1660, cuando la esposa del rey Carlos II, se aficiono a esa bebida y extendió su gusto al resto de la corte. A partir de ese momento empezó el comercio con Asia para importar al antiguo puerto de Londres los diferentes tipos de té que, almacenados en las «warehouses» situadas a orillas del rio -actualmente convertidos en lofts de primera clase-, llegarían a todos los puntos de este país.

Tipos de te para un perfecto «English tea time»

Los hay de mañana y de tarde: Breakfast y Afternoon.

– Los breakfast tés más destacados son, por supuesto el English Breakfast y el Assam.
El English Breakfast es un té negro, que generalmente mezclado con leche y azúcar, ofrece un gran cuerpo y sabor robusto.

El Assam tea, con nombre homónimo a su lugar de producción en India, es un té negro que crece a nivel del mar, lo cual le da un sabor fuerte y un color brillante.

El Earl Grey tea se distingue por su sabor a bergamota y a cítricos.

Darjeeling tea es el te perteneciente a la región con ese mismo nombre en India. Quizás es el té con más reputación entre los demás tés negros, es ligero de cuerpo y con aroma floral.

Despite being endangered because of the timetables and lifestyles of our current society, the old-fashioned English society still maintains the traditional English tea time, although it tends to take place just on special occasions.

The tea time occurs between three and five in the afternoon and it is equivalent to our snack time.

If we look back, the act of drinking tea was just a common act of the upper classes, but it is well known that nowadays it is the national drink. The tea time is the moment of day to talk about the problems of everyday life and sweeten them with good biscuits, scones with butter or varied sandwiches. So, it is still easy to see well-dressed and stiff matrons drinking tea with a protocol worthy of the Court, as wll as people from the working class who do not refuse a cup of tea when things go wrong.
The importation of tea to Britain began in 1660, when the wife of King Charles II got fond of  the drink and extended it to the rest of the Court. From that moment, the trade with Asia to import the different types of tea to the old port of London began.
Types of tea:
There are the ones for the morning, and the ones for the afternoon: Breakfast teas and Afternoon teas.
The most outstanding Breakfast teas are of course the English Breakfast tea and Assam:
-The English Breakfast tea is a black, usually mixed with milk and sugar, gives a great body and robust flavor.
-The Assam tea, named like this because of its production site in India, is a black tea grown at sea level, which gives a strong flavor and a bright color.

The Afternoon teas are Earl Grey, Darjeeling and Ceylon:
-The Earl Grey tea is distinguished for its flavor of bergamot and citrus.
-Darjeeling tea is the tea belonging to the region with the same name in India, and the one which gets the best reputation among the other black teas. It get light body and floral aroma.
-Ceylon tea is another type of black from Sri Lanka (the country was known as Ceylone time ago). It has great citrus flavors
